Bugger- I lost a large filling from a molar (large tooth)
overnight. I could feel the sharp edge of the tooth digging into my gum,
feeling with my tongue I could tell that half of the tooth was gone.
Experience has taught me that the tooth would not stand up
to any heavy chewing such as steak or anything hard, I also know that it’s best
not to leave these things and to get my tooth seen to immediately.
I am currently unemployed, so I set off to see the
Government Dentist at the local Geraldton Hospital. Vivid images started to
fill my imagination, large intimidating needles straight into the gum, ouch,
the buzz of the Dentists drill and the pain you have to endure while the
dentist grinds away at your teeth & in the process giving the nerves a good
rattling, hence bringing on unbearable pain.
When I attended the hospital they were very busy, short one
Dentist, they gave me the option of visiting a private Dentist, I took the private
option and headed off down to the new Medical Centre at 194 Durlacher Street
opposite the IGA Supermarket.
The new Medical Centre has a Doctor, a Podiatrist, a Beauty Centre, a Dentist & a wicked Café that serves all types of coffee, cakes,
sandwiches pies etc. The whole place has a well-designed décor and a really
good feel about it, they also have heaps of parking with a Chemist right there
at your convenience.
When the Dentist called me I was surprised to find that she
was an attractive & very personable young lady who hails from Pakistan where
she did her study before eventually arriving in Geraldton with her husband
& young family. Her name is Dr. Nazia Ghori.
She was happy to chat & told me that she has been too
busy working to see much of Geraldton. The Dentist proceeded to commence work,
she was assisted by another young lady, her Dental Nurse who also mans the
front desk when the Dentist is on lunch or taking a break.
The Dentist was extremely gentle & understanding. As she
started work she reassured me that none of her patients ever feel pain, she
then asked me if I was frightened of needles?
A big strong man like me, frightened of needles? Perish the thought, I have no fear & can endure the intense pain a Dentist used to inflict upon you with gay abandon & a devilish smile before better technology & drugs arrived!

Dr. Ghori sprayed my gum with a pain deadener so efficient, that when she did insert a few injections into the gum, I wasn’t even aware she
did it, I felt no discomfort or pain.
The Dentist, along with the Dental Nurse then set about filling my mouth with all sorts of instruments and implements, she drove a couple of wedges into a metal contraption screwed onto the ailing tooth at one stage, & at all times she was gentle & caring as was the Dental Nurse.

They both worked like a well-oiled team. The drill came out,
no pain, then she started to construct me a new tooth, she scraped & whittled
away, as the pleasant Nurse handed her each instrument without her even asking
for it most times, team work, I love it!
Finally, after much technically difficult work, the gooey
filling was pushed & moulded into the hole in my tooth & a new tooth
was formed. A quick blast of the ultra-violet light to harden up this brilliant
enamel creation, a few touches with the mini grinder, and I was off home with a
wonderfully strong new tooth, just as good as it has ever been.
I have never ever been to a Dentist & not felt pain, but
Dr. Ghori and her very efficient assistant were true to their word & I
never felt any pain. I was also constantly reassured, as the dynamic duo
continually informed me of what they were doing in my mouth, very comforting
with a fantastic level of care, and the cost?
I’m not going to tell you, but it was extremely good value for money/ It was of course, partly subsidised by the Government, but if I had paid full price, the fee was still extremely economical. I was so impressed I will be going back for regular check-ups & a bit of maintenance & cleaning.

If you need work on your
teeth & you are a bit frightened of Dentists & the pain they might
inflict, then do yourself a favour & go & see Dr. Ghori & her
lovely assistant at 194 Durlacher Street, Geraldton.
It’s called the Geraldton Dental & Implant Centre- their phone number is 9932 6666. Dr. Ghori is a welcome asset to the Geraldton community.
